About Me

Cake has been a part of my life for as far back as I can remember. My Mom was a cake decorator when I was younger and I discovered a few years ago that I had inerited her talent for it as well. I have not been satisfied with my jobs for a while now so I thought why not do something I love. Helping people celebrate the big moments of their lives. I can do cakes for all occasions. Let me be a part of your next celebration. Official website is secondgenerationcakedesign.com

Survivor Themed Cake

I made this cake for the final day of 4th Week Camp at my Church. I wanted to give the kids a sweet and fun treat at the end of their week of games and learning. Since this years theme was Survivor and the location was the Osgoode Swamp I created this cake. I hand painted the logo using edible paint. The alligator and snakes are made of fondant. The cattail leaves and boat are formed from gumpaste. I made the cattails by rolling little pieces of modeling chocolate and sticking them on the end of toothpicks. I used longer sucker sticks and wrapped them in modeling chocolate to make the torches and topped them with fondant flames. The Osgoode Swamp sign is also made of modeling chocolate and I used a fondant tool to score wood grain into it and white food coloring to age it. It was a fun cake to design and create and the kids loved it and devoured it as well. Can't wait to see what theme I get to work with next year!

Spiderman Birthday Cake

I made this cake for a friend at work. Her son wanted a Spiderman cake for his 4th birthday. I wrapped the hexagon cake with fondant building in varying sizes and shapes along the sides and piped a web with spiders along the front. Spiderman is cut out of gumpaste and then hand painted using edible paint (food coloring mixed with a little vanilla vodka).

Purple & Ivory Damask Wedding Cake

Jen came to me a little frustrated. She had not had very good experiences with bakers. No one seemed to want to design a wedding cake around her topper. I'm not sure when cake designers stopped designing cakes for their clients and only for themselves. It's her day so we designed this cake just for her. Her colors were purple and green and she was using a lot of rustic details in her table designs. We did a damask pattern on the bottom and top tiers in ivory and white and a quilted effect on the middle tier in purple. With peonies and hydrangea buds highlighting her fun topper. It is one of my favorite cakes I have done.

Grave Digger Monster Truck Birthday Cake

I made this cake for a 9th birthday party. The birthday boy was a HUGE Grave Digger fan. Every part of this is cake. The truck is stacked and carved sheet cakes and for the wheels I baked the cakes in a mini bundt pan. Trimmed and covered in black fondant they have the little inset for the hubs and the groves for the tread. Painting on black was a challenge but I just added some white to the green and purple so it would show up on the black fondant.

Delft Blue Cupcakes and Cupcake Toppers

My Oma and her twin asked me to make them cupcakes so that they would have something to give to everyone who stopped by to visit on their birthday., I had free reign of flavor and design so I made these as a special surprise. The delft blue (or delft blauw) design is hand painted on each topper. Cupcakes to honor our dutch heritage.

Fire Helmet Birthday Cake

I made this cake for a friends Son-in-law's 30th birthday. He is a fire fighter so she asked that I make his helmet out of cake. I got all the details in including the flashlight, door jam and eyes in the back of his head. They were so happy with the cake they called me right after it had been served to tell me how much they appreciated all the work I did on it. It was so uplifting to get such a reaction.

Mickey & Minnie Wedding Cake

This cake is a reproduction of the cake the couple had when they got married in Disney World in February. They asked me to recreate it for their reception up here in June. I got it pretty close to the original. Luckily they took pictures from various angles so I had lots to work with. It was a marble cake with strawberry mousse filling. There were guests that were at both events and said that mine was better. A little gloating there I know but it was such a great compliment.

Brown Bear Cupcakes and Toppers

Brown bear, brown bear what do you see? Never heard of the book let alone read it before a friend asked me to make these for her sons first birthday. This is Weston's favorite book so it was a good for his cupcakes. Using various cutters I made all the animals from the book (at least I think it was all of them) and on the eye ones I personalized them for Weston. "Weston, Weston what do you see?". They were a hit.

Bridal Shower Cupcakes

I was asked to make beautiful cupcakes for a bridal shower. She wanted the dress toppers and red roses to match her wedding flowers. These might be classic vanilla cupcakes with vanilla Italian buttercream but they are absolutely stunning cupcakes.

School Spirit Thank You Cake

I had a client ask for a cake for the teachers of her sons school. This would be his last year there as they are moving out of the district. Iroquois Public School colors are gold ad purple and the lion is their mascot. I made him out of fondant and surrounded him with some circles to make it fun. They were all very happy with how it turned out.

Pirate Birthday Cake

Jack wanted a pirate themed cake for his birthday so I designed this just for him. The border is blue buttercream piped to look like waves. The side is a continuous map of x's around the whole cake and topped of with the jolly roger. As you can see there are two versions and this is because as I was about to put it in the box to deliver it almost fell on the floor. I did save it but there was a bit of damage where my fingers made dents from grabbing it. Luckily 1. it didn't fall to the floor and 2. I had purchased some chocolate coins to go on the cake but couldn't figure out how to quite use them. Well they became covers for the spots that I just could't repair. That is really what a lot of cake decorating is anyways...the cover up. It was still a fun and cute cake for Jack's 4th birthday!

Balloon Birthday Cake

This cake was for a balloon themed birthday party. The sheet cake was used as the sky. I then placed 3 half mini ball cakes, covered in fondant, onto the sky as the balloons. Written in the clouds is his "Happy Birthday" message. It's a fun and cute cake.
