Cake has been a part of my life for as far back as I can remember. My Mom was a cake decorator when I was younger and I discovered a few years ago that I had inerited her talent for it as well. I have not been satisfied with my jobs for a while now so I thought why not do something I love. Helping people celebrate the big moments of their lives. I can do cakes for all occasions. Let me be a part of your next celebration. Official website is secondgenerationcakedesign.com

Mickey Mouse & Donald Duck Birthday Cake

I made this cake for my niece's 2nd birthday last weekend. Her favorite show is Mickey Mouse Clubhouse. I had asked her if she wanted the clubhouse on her cake and she said no. She also said no to Pluto, Daisy, Minnie and Goofy. All she wanted was Mickey and Donald. Pretty specific for a 2 year old. She was very excited about her cake and I really love how it turned out also!

Poker Table Birthday Cake

Although this is not an original design as they have been done tons of times before it is still a really cool one. Great cake for most guys birthdays. She even ordered a fabulous flavor as well...Reese Peanut Butter Cup. Made sure there was some scraps of this one...it's my favorite flavor! Loved doing this cake!

Deer Head Birthday Cake

I had a client contact me to make her mother-in-law's birthday cake. She loves hunting so she sent me a link to a cake she loved and just had to have for her mother-in-law's birthday. My version is quite different but I always tell my clients that I can only do a loose interpretation of a cake as I my style and talent could be quite different than the decorator who did the original. I did try to do my best to honor the original with a cake worthy of being called "inspired by". The family and birthday girl loved the cake so I was happy. I have not been challenged by a cake this much in a long time. Here is the link to the inspiration cake.

Drum Birthday Cake

This cake was for a drummers 60th birthday. For a cake that should have been relatively easy it gave me a run for my money. It turned out really good though! Two stacked round cakes and some cookie sticks are all you need to create a fabulous cake for the drummer in your life.

Valentine's Day Cupcakes

I made these cupcakes as to take a photo for my Valentine's Day promotion. The middle ones are chocolate covered strawberry cupcakes ~ chocolate cupcakes topped with delicious strawberry Italian buttercream and dipped in silky dark chocolate. The Rose cupcakes are chocolate cupcakes with strawberry Italian buttercream frosted to look like roses. I don't normally eat all my test batches anymore as I am slightly cupcaked out but I finished these ones off no problem.

Black Lace and Red Roses Wedding Cake

I recently invested in some sugarveil mats. I have been wanting for so long to try out this gorgeous technique so when one of my favorite online stores flourconfections.com had mats on sale I indulged myself and bought one. I also wanted to practice roses so I made 2 dozen of them. I designed this cake around these techniques. I personally love how it turned out. Oh and all the websites tell you not to start with black when doing sugarveil for the first time but I really love a challenge. It was sticky but I have nothing to compare it with so I am assuming doing white next time will be really easy.

Toy Cookie Tutorial

Toy Cookie Tutorial

I created these “cookies” for a gift for my niece for her 2nd birthday. I made her toy cupcakes for Christmas and she loves “baking” then so much that I decided she needed some variety in her baking regime as I do. They are super easy and fast to make.

Ingredients

  • Baking sheet
  • Fabric (can be scraps)
  • Large round felt sticky pads
  • Spatula

I got the baking sheet at the dollar store, the felt pads in the hardware section of Walmart and the fabric was scraps lying around in my craft room. Oh and the spatula you could probably get at the dollar store as well I just had this one lying around and don’t like using this style so I had no problem giving it to my niece.

Step 1

Peel the paper off the back of the felt pads. Place on the fabric and smooth it over the felt pad.

Step 2

Cut along the edge of the felt pad. “Bake” with the brown side up.

Step 3

Flip over and smooth the “icing” on with the spatula and voila you have decorated cookies!

Black Lace & Red Roses Cake

This is the top tier of a dummy wedding cake I am doing to showcase at a local bridal shop. I have been in love with the lace effect you can do with sugarveil for a while and finally I went ahead a purchased a mat and tried my hand at it. I googled how to and in a few of the sites I found they advise not to do black the first time as it makes the sugarveil sticky and hard to work with. As you can see I didn't listen as I usually never do. I really wanted to do black! I have also been trying to perfect my roses so I made 2 dozen red ones for this cake. I have finished the whole cake this afternoon but I will have to wait until tomorrow when I have some natural light to work with to take the pics. I have to say that I am now hooked on sugarveil!

Train Birthday Cake

This adorable train cake was fun to make. The lucky birthday boy's Mom brought me the trains to put on the cake so he could keep them after. I had seen a few cakes similar online and used them as inspiration for this cake. It was a hit!
